The book 'Degas at the Races' provided me with lots of early inspiration and I still find it useful sometimes to go back to his images as a test for my own drawing skills. I like his combining pastel and paint, with incisive lines in conte. Hopefully these images come fairly close to the spirit of Degas without being slavish copies.
